Leadership & Evangelism Workshop 1/3
Before you can lead, think clearly about your vision, you need a goal to lead others to, without a focus, you will get no-where, and not only that, you will get there fast. Prayerfully search out God’s purpose and plan (with his counsel) how to make it a reality.
There are 3 main Leadership styles;
- Authoritarian: These are leaders like Hitler who compel people to follow them
with authority, regardless of earning trust etc. - Laissez Faire: This is a classic status quo, “Don’t rock the boat” kind of leader, they are very hands off and often allow things to happen rather than actively intervening.
- Empowering: This is the kind of leader you want to be, you have vision, you communicate that to others making the vision theirs too. Lead the overall movement but empower the people to participate, they are not just a crowd which are following, they are all vital cogs in the machine, they have a sense of ownership and purpose.
The workshop then moved on to personal evangelism and what is known as the
Gospel presentation.
Firstly, when talking to someone, you want to get the conversation onto spiritual things, there are many ways you can do this such as the FORT principle
- Family
- Occupation
- Religion
- Testimony
Ask about their family and occupation and usually you will (with a little practice) be able to find something in there to get on to religion, if they are receptive you can then share your testimony with them.
Condense your testimony to an easily comprehensible account lasting about 2 minutes covering 3 main areas
- What your life was like before Christ
- How you met Him
- What your life has been like since then (benefits)
In this they will see your spirituality, humility and certainty (confidence) to a receptive heart these will be appealing qualities.
If you have made it to this point of the process, they will be open to spiritual conversation, ask diagnostic questions like;
“If your life were to end today, would you be ready?”
If they say no you can share with them from scripture what it means to be saved
and how they can have that assurance.
If they say yes, ask them
“If God asked you why did he let you into heaven what would you answer?”
This will then give you a window into their understanding of salvation, be it works based or faith based. If they answer in a way displaying a faith approach, simply rejoice with them, but if they respond in a works based way, firstly identify with them “I used to think like that too” or something similar, you can then share with them the plan of salvation, just as if they answered no, to the first question.
You can do this a number of ways but visually is always a good option especially when coupled with scripture… they gave us a diagram, if I had time I would re-illustrate it for you , but I have found more simple examples on the internet for the sake of speed… thanks go out to TCL for posting the image
Sketch the above on any available sheet of paper to show them visually what you are explaining to them from the Word. Ask them where they are versus where they want to be on that diagram. Then invite them to accept the free gift of salvation, pray with them then rejoice with them.
